POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - With a 186-91 victory over Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Fairfield on Nov. 8, Marist's men's swimming and diving team improved to 3-0 in the 2014-15 season.
The Red Foxes' all-senior 400-yard medley relay team of Dylan Cummings (Midland Park, N.J.), captain Nick Vandermolen (Brielle, N.J.), Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) and John Spitzer (Fairport, N.Y.) opened the meet swimming to a first place time of 3:36.56. It was the first of five consecutive first place finishes for Marist.
Seniors Sean Suillivan (Huntington, N.Y.) and Brendan McCarthy (West Chester, Pa.) each had two victories in individual events. Sullivan won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:15.09 and clocked in at 10:11.09 in the 1000-yard freestyle. McCarthy prevailed in short and long distance events, winning the 100-yard backstroke (57.63 seconds) and 500-yard freestyle (4:55.97).
Marist got 15 points from sophomore Ryan Murphy (New Fairfield, Conn.), who finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:41.53. Murphy placed third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.58) and 200-yard backstroke (2:07.57).
The Red Foxes finished 1-2-3 in the 1-meter dive, with junior Josh Dodway (Niskayuna, N.Y.) leading the way by scoring 302.55 points. Senior Jacob Baker (Shavertown, Pa.) and freshman Peter Gallino (Watertown, Conn.) finished neck and neck, racking up 252.15 and 251.10 points respectively. Dodway also won the 3-meter dive with a score of 289.42 points.
The Red Foxes will face MAAC rival Rider at 6 p.m. Nov. 15 in McCann Natatorium.
