Water Polo Splits Two-Game Series in Non-Conference Matchups

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Marist water polo team (16-15, 5-1 MAAC) traveled to Hartwick today for its last pair of non-conference games. The Red Foxes fell to Indiana 13-3 in game one before claiming a 21-10 victory over Gannon.

“Today was a good opportunity for our roster to get playing time,” said Head Coach Natalie Benson. “At this point in the season, we had to prioritize conference play over out of conference matches. We are looking forward to our final weekends of conference play this weekend.”

Game One

In the first outing of the day, junior Jessica Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.), Anna-Lena Hathaway (South Pasadena, Calif.) and freshman Alayna Hayick (Mohnton, Pa.) each posted a goal for the Red Foxes.

Also for Marist, senior Kathryn Knutson (Oakland, Calif.), senior Yuriria Chavez (Chicago, Ill.), freshman Amanda Amorosa (Montreal, QC), and Hathaway added one assist each. Freshman Jocelyn McQuade (Vancouver, BC) nabbed two steals, while Amorosa added a steal and a field block. In net, sophomore Skyler Henry posted 12 saves.

Game Two

Marist dominated its second game of the day, overtaking Gannon 21-10, spreading the scoring throughout nine different Red Foxes.

Amorosa led the team with five goals and four assists, while also posting a field block in the victory. Chavez, Alison Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.), and Hathaway each tallied three goals, while Knutson, and freshman Nastassia McGlothlin (Mission Viejo, Calif.) each nabbed two goals each. Also for the Red Foxes, junior Hannah Levien (Davis, Calif.) McQuade and sophomore Brooke Else (Lansdale, Pa.) notched a goal apiece.

Alison Hamby and Hathaway both compiled three assists each, as Chavez nabbed six steals in the win. In net, Henry posted four saves, one assist and one steal.

The Red Foxes finish out conference play and their regular season schedule next weekend. On Saturday, Marist will face off against Wagner at 9 a.m. before taking on VMI at 4 p.m. in Staten Island, N.Y. On Sunday, the team travels to Brooklyn, N.Y. to take on Villanova at noon, and St. Francis at 5:30 p.m.
