WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Marist men's tennis team took down the St. Bonaventure Bonnies, 6-1, Saturday afternoon at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center. With the win the Red Foxes improve to 4-4 in non-conference play.
The team of freshman Rudolf Kurz (Oberpullendorf, Austria) and senior captain Joseph Dube (Livonia, Mich.) led off with an 8-2 doubles win for the Red Foxes and freshman Justin Chanthalangsy (San Marcos, Calif.) and senior captain Matteo Guidici (Parma, Italy) followed up with an 8-5 win of their own to earn the doubles point.
Junior Joe Motta (Staten Island, N.Y.) and sophomore Dylan Fletcher (Stow, Mass.) picked up a 7-5 doubles win of their own against the Bonnies Trevor Haskell and Tj DeSanto.
The Red Foxes good play carried over into singles as Kurz, freshman Timo Tanzer (Auvernier, Switzerland), Chanthalangsy, Giudici and freshman Jan Dernic (Koper, Slovenia) all picked up singles wins of their own.
"It was a Good win today against a competitive St. Bonaventure. We were able to win the doubles point with Kurz and Dube leading with an 8-2 win, and Giudici and Chanthalangsy clinching the point for us,” head coach Tim Smith said. “Great singles playing from Kurz at 1 winning 6-3, 6-2. Kudos to Tanzer for a great come back and Chanthalangsy and Giudici for their wins in singles and doubles."
The Red Foxes take a week off and then return to action against Yale, FDU and Stony Brook in West Haven, Conn. on Saturday, Mar. 7 and Sunday, Mar. 8.
