November 14, 2020 – Sixteen years ago today, the Marist men's soccer team punched its ticket for its first NCAA berth in program history.

Playing a muddy field at Rider, the Red Foxes earned a 2-0 triumph over the host Broncs in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship game. Marist received an early goal from Kyle Nunes in the fourth minute, and a tally from David Musinski in the 83
rd minute. Keith Detelj was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Six days later, the Red Foxes took UConn to overtime before falling, 2-1.

Marist would go on to repeat as MAAC champions in 2005.

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -Â Kyle Nunes and David Musinski each netted a goal in Marist's 2-0 win over host Rider in the finals of the 2004 MAAC Soccer Tournament Sunday afternoon at Rider University. The victory will clinch the Red Foxes' first bid to the NCAA Tournament in school history. Marist also on the MAAC title in 2000, but fell to IUPUI 1-0 in triple overtime in an NCAA play-in game. Marist moved to 11-7 overall with the win, while Rider finished its season at 6-14.

Nunes put the Red Foxes on the board first when he blasted a 40-yard shot from straight away at the 3:18 mark over the outstretched arms of Rider goalkeeper Daniel Riverso.

Musinski's goal came in the 83rd minute on an assist from Benjamin Castor, the league's defensive player of the year.
Â
Marist goalkeeper Mike Valenti finished with three saves, while Riverso had seven. The Red Foxes outshot Rider 13-7.

Keith Detelj was named tournament MVP, while Castor, Tomislav Rogic, Nunes and Valenti were all named all-tournament.

The Red Foxes will now await their first round opponent when the pairings are announced on ESPNews at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
