October 28, 2020 – Nine years ago today, the Marist men's cross country program posted two of the top three times at Van Cortlandt Park in its history at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championships.
Will Griffin led the way for the Red Foxes with a time of 25:03.4, followed closely by Matt Flint at 25:04.0. Those remain the second- and third-fastest times posted at the historic course in program history. The duo trailed only Girma Segni, who ran a time of 25:01.4 in 2008.
Arquimedes DelaCruz was the third-fastest Red Fox that day at 25:32.0. Just 22 days later, DelaCruz returned to Van Cortlandt Park and bested that time by 15 seconds to earn All-East honors at the ECAC Championships. His time of 25:17 is currently the sixth-fastest in program history at Van Cortlandt Park.
Griffin, Flint, and DelaCruz were named All-MAAC at this meet. Griffin and DelaCruz were named All-MAAC all four years of their careers, while Flint was honored three times. Griffin was the first outdoor track & field athlete in program history to qualify for the NCAA Regional Meet, and was named Marist's Sportsperson of the Year in 2012.
The 2011 MAAC Championships marked the seventh of eighth consecutive years that the program placed second. Iona has an active streak of 29 straight MAAC championships.
