Swimming & Diving Wraps up Competition at the ECAC Championships

Men's Team Finishes in Second Place; Women's Team Finishes in Fourth Place

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland – The Marist men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up their seasons on Sunday evening, as the final day of the ECAC Championships came to a close. The men finished the event in third place (of 21 teams), while the women took fourth place (of 22 teams) in the competition. Both Red Fox squads combined for 702 points, which would put them in second place, only behind Navy. 

The Naval Academy came out victorious on both sides of the event, edging the men's team by a score of 670-405. Columbia just beat out the men for second place, outscoring them 409-406. The Navy women's team outscored Marist's women 638-325. 

 
ECAC CHAMPIONS
  • In total, the Red Foxes won four gold medals in the competition.
  • Esabelle Gervasio won both women's diving events, winning the 3-meter boards with a score of 286.30, and then winning the 1-meter boards with a school-record, and USNA pool record, 323.10 points.
  • Raislan Aiken won both men's diving events, winning the 3-meter boards with a score of 325.80 and then winning the 1-meter boards with a score of 299.35 points.
 
ACCOLADES & RECORDS
  • Gervasio was named Women's Diver of the Meet after winning both diving events.
  • Additionally, Aiken was named Men's Diver of the Meet after winning both of his events. 
  • On day two, Ahmed Sallam broke a school record with a time of 22.70 in the 50-yard back portion of the 200-yard medley relay prelims.
  • Sallam also had the fastest 50-yard free time in school history in the 200-yard free relay prelims on day one.
 
DAY 3 MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sallam took fourth place in the 100-yard free, with a time of 44.76, closing out what was an extremely impressive performance throughout all three days in Maryland.
  • Ethan McCormac finished in eighth in the 100-yard free with a time of 45.49.
  • Ryan Kaplan took fourth in the 200-yard back, clocking in at 1:49.74.
  • Adam Kapusta placed fifth in the 200-yard fly with a time of 1:50.41.
