REDLANDS, Calif. - Three different players scored two goals as the Marist water polo team came back to defeat Redlands University 9-6 Tuesday night. The win salvaged a 1-1 day as the Red Foxes fell to #12 Indiana earlier in the day, 10-6.
Trailing 3-1 after the first quarter, Marist (5-15) shut out Redlands in the second period, while scoring three times themselves to take a 4-3 lead at halftime. With the score tied at five after three quarters, the Red Foxes outscored Redlands 4-1 in the final period to put away the win.
Robyn Crabtree (Cutler Bay, Fla.), Mackenzie Maynes (Newcastle, Wash.) and Hannah Levien (Davis, Calif.) all found the back of the net twice and Levien added an assist. Jaclyn Puccino (San Diego, Calif.) had a goal and four steals. Alison Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) and Yuriria Chavez (Chicago, Ill.) both also scored and Jessica Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) had two assists. Rebecca Thomas (Cape Town, South Africa), who earlier in the day was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, made seven saves and three steals in goal for Marist.
In their earlier game, the Hamby sisters combined to score five of the Red Foxes six goals. Alison had three goals and an assist and Jessica added two scores. Puccino dished out three assists and Kline also scored a goal and contributed defensively with a steal and a field block. Thomas played in goal making 12 saves and added a steal.
