BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Marist men's swimming and diving team competed in the second day of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships today, falling to second place. The Red Foxes ended the day trailing Rider University by 40, posting 493.0 points to claim second place in the championships.
Junior Sean Sullivan (Huntington, N.Y.) claimed third place in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:03.32, while junior Dylan Cummings (Midland Park, N.J.) placed fourth directly behind in 4:04.00.
In the three-meter dive, senior Sean Molloy (Slingerlands, N.Y.) led the Red Foxes with a third place finish (286.90). Sophomore Josh Dodway (Niskayuna, N.Y.) followed directly behind in fourth place (282.40), and junior Jacob Baker (Shavertown, Pa.) followed suit in fifth place (276.10).
In the 1,000 yard freestyle, freshman Ryan Murphy (New Fairfield, Conn.) placed fourth with a time of 9:25.31. Also for Marist, junior Bill Drennen (Collegeville, Pa.) placed ninth, while senior Nick Cook (Middlebury, Conn.) took 17th place.
Also for the Red Foxes, junior Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) took fourth place in the 100-yard butterfly in 50.47, while freshman Alex Cassel (East Greenville, Pa.) took 15th place. In the 100-yd breaststroke, junior Nicholas Vandermolen (Brielle, N.J.) placed seventh place (57.72), while freshman David Dimarco (Nazareth, Pa.) finished in 10th place (58.45). In the 200-yard freestyle, junior Spencer Kelley (Weston, Conn.) took ninth place (1:43.67), and freshman Harris Nagle (Allentown, Pa.) placed 14th (1:45.07)
In the 100-yard backstroke, junior Dylan Cummings (Midland Park, N.J.) placed fourth, while junior Nick Spinella (Franklin Square, N.Y.) claimed fifth, and sophomore Caleb Camp (Chapel Hill, N.C.) took eighth. Also in the event, junior Brendan McCarthy (West Chester, Pa.) and freshman Chris Penteck (Holbrook, N.Y.) took 11th and 12th, respectively.
The 200-yard medley relay, consisting of Cummings, Vandermolen, Spinella and junior John Spitzer (Fairport, N.Y.), placed third with a time of 1:32.12.
The 800-yard freestyle relay, consisting of Drennen, Murphy, Ruddy and Spinella, placed second with a time of 6:46.47 to finish out Day Two of the MAAC Championships. The relay also broke the school record.
Marist will compete in the final day of the MAAC Championships, kicking off Day Three of Preliminaries at 10 a.m.

PRELIMINARIES:
The Marist men's swimming and diving team competed in Day Two of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships this morning. The Red Foxes advanced six swimmers, and all three divers to the Finals tonight.
In the 400-yard individual medley, juniors Sean Sullivan (Huntington, N.Y.) and Dylan Cummings (Midland Park, N.J.) placed second and third, respectively. Sullivan finished in 4:02.37, while Cummings came in behind him at 4:04.23.
Also for the Red Foxes, junior Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) claimed a second place finish (50.06) in the 100-yard butterfly. Junior Nicholas Vandermolen (Brielle, N.J) placed eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 57.64.
Three Red Foxes claimed a Finals birth during the preliminaries in the 100-yard backstroke. Senior Nick Spinella (Franklin Square, N.Y.) took first place with a time of 50.49. Cummings followed directly behind in 50.70, while sophomore Caleb Camp (Chapel Hill, N.C.) finished in seventh place (52.12).
In the three-meter dive, sophomore Josh Dodway (Niskayuna, N.Y.) placed fourth, while junior Jacob Baker (Shavertown, Pa.) and senior Sean Molloy (Slingerlands, N.Y.) placed sixth and eighth, respectively.
