POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – A total of 11 Marist softball players were named National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar-Athletes for the 2016-17 school year.
To be an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete, one must have a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher. The 11 Red Foxes honored were
Megan Beiermeister,
Brittany Colombo,
Brandi Coon,
Gabrielle Kelliher,
Janna Korak,
Kallen Leeseberg,
Casey Page,
Kourtney Paul,
Amanda Sartori,
Jade Sinskul, and
Jessica Van Alphen. This total was tied for the highest of any of the 11 schools in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Last year, the Marist softball team had the
nation's 15th best grade-point average at 3.525. A total of 16 Red Foxes were named to the MAAC Academic Honor Roll. Kelliher was named a
CoSIDA Academic All-American, while Coon and Kelliher both earned
CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.
Last season, the Red Foxes finished 37-22. Under the leadership of 10th-year head coach
Joe Ausanio, Marist has enjoyed seven straight winning seasons. The Red Foxes have advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times in program history: 2006, 2013, and 2016.
