BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Marist men's swimming and diving team leads after Day One of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships, with a score of 227.0.
The men's 200-yard freestyle relay broke the school record while also taking first place with a time of 1:22.78 to kick off Day One of the MAAC Championship Finals. The relay consisted of senior Alex Lombardi (Branford, Conn.), junior Spencer Kelley (Weston, Conn.), senior Nick Spinella (Franklin Square, N.Y.), junior and John Spitzer (Fairport, N.Y.).
Also for the Red Foxes, Spitzer took first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.81 seconds.
In the 500-yard freestyle, freshman Ryan Murphy (New Fairfield, Conn.) claimed second place with a time of 4:31.34. Junior Bill Drennen (Collegeville, Pa.) took tenth place in the event, finishing with a time of 4:36.42.
Junior Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) claimed second place in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:51.14. Also for the Red Foxes, freshman David DiMarco (Nazareth, Pa.) took seventh place (1:53.49), while Spinella took eighth (1:55.25), and junior Nicholas Vandermolen (Brielle, N.J.) finished 13th (1:57.14).
Following behind Spitzer in the 50 free, Kelley placed seventh with a time of 21.18, with Lombardi following right behing in eighth (21.49). Sophomore Caleb Camp (Chapel Hill, N.C.) took 15th in the event with a time of 21.73.
In the one-meter dive, senior Sean Molloy (Slingerlands, N.Y.) claimed second place with a score of 277.15, while sophomore Josh Dodway (Niskayuna, N.Y.) took sixth (258.55) and junior Jacob Baker (Shavertown, Pa.) placed seventh (251.95).
To close out Day One of competition, the 400-yard medley relay placed third with a time of 3:22.94, breaking a school record. Also for Marist, junior Dylan Cummings (Midland Park, N.J.) broke a school record with a time of 50.40 in the backstroke leg of the relay.

PRELIMINARIES:
The Marist men's swimming and diving competed in Day One of the MAAC Championships, with two Red Foxes placing first and breaking school records in round one of the preliminaries.
Freshman Ryan Murphy (New Fairfield, Conn.) claimed first place in the 500 yard freestyle, while also breaking a school record. He finished with a time of 4:30.66. Also for Marist, junior John Spitzer (Fairport, N.Y.) claimed first place in the 50-yard freestyle, breaking the school record with a time of 20.71.
In the 200-yard individual medley, junior Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) tied for second place with a time of 1:52.32. Also for the Red Foxes, senior Nick Spinella (Franklin Square, N.Y.) took seventh place (1:54.01), while freshman David DiMarco (Nazareth, Pa.) finished in eight place (1:54.04).
Also in the 50-yard freestyle, junior Spencer Kelley (Weston, Conn.) placed sixth with a time of 21.08, while senior Alex Lombardi (Branford, Conn.) claimed eighth place in 21.36.
