NEW HAVEN, CONN. – The Marist men's tennis team defeated the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights, 9-3, Saturday afternoon in the Yale Men's Tennis Invitational at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven, Conn. With the win the Red Foxes improve to 5-4 in non-conference action.

The Red Foxes started the day off with a tough, 7-5, opening loss in doubles but rebounded quickly when the team of freshman Rudolf Kurz (Oberpullendorf, Austria) and sophomore Dylan Fletcher (Stow, Mass.) defeated Jake Whalley and Adam Chan from FDU, 6-3. Fletcher would also pick up a singles win on the day to finish 2-0 in matches he participated in.The Red Foxes would go on to win the remaining two doubles matches, locking up the doubles win for Marist.

In singles play, things started slowly as well for the Red Foxes as freshman Justin Chanthalangsy (San Marcos, Calif.) and Kurz both lost their opening singles matches. Chanthalangsy and Kurz would both finish 1-1 in their matches for the day, winning a doubles match but losing a singles match.

The Red Foxes quickly picked things up and didn't lose another singles match for the rest of the session. Senior captains Joseph Dube (Livonia, Mich.) and Matteo Giudici (Parma, Italy) both earned singles points for Marist along with freshman Timo Tanzer (Auvernier, Switzerland), freshman Jan Dernic (Koper, Slovenia) and junior Julien Hochner (Nice, France).

"I love the format,” commented head coach Tim Smith about the elongated session. “Although we lost number one and two singles, we won nine other matches."

The Red Foxes return to action as they conclude their match with Yale by playing the doubles session in the morning and then a full match with Stony Brook later in the afternoon
