BUFFALO, New York - With 437 points in three days, the Marist men's swimming and diving team is in second place heading into the final day of the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships. As of Feb. 11 the Red Foxes were behind only the Rider Broncs, which racked up 585.5 points. 

A trio of second place finishes propelled the Red Foxes through seven events Friday night. Freshman Evan Nilsson began the meet with a second place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:20.44) and was followed by classmate Michael O'Donovan in third (9:28.07). Senior Manuel Garcia clocked in at 49.36 seconds for second place in the 100-yard butterfly. He was also on the Red Foxes' third place 400-yard medley relay squad. 

Junior captain Robert McDowell was third in the 100-yard backstroke (50.71 seconds).  

On the 3-meter board junior Peter Gallino was the penultimate diver and came in second with 334.50 points. Freshman Raislan Aiken also dove in the final and scored 247.30 points for sixth place.

PRELIMINARIES

McDowell was the Red Foxes' top qualifier on the morning of Day Three with a third-place time of 50.87 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke. Garcia tied with Canisius junior Dan Dirrigl for the fifth spot in the 100-yard butterfly (49.94 seconds) and sophomore Edward Oser snagged the last spot in the A final of the 100-yard breaststroke (57.89 seconds).

In the 3-meter dive Gallino racked up the second highest score with 309.55 points. Aiken was fifth with 254.75 points.
