Every Monday throughout the summer, we'll be highlighting some of the best championship teams throughout our history, Check back here on GoRedFoxes.com weekly!

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – In 2013, the Marist Women's Tennis team won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship. The second-seeded Red Foxes defeated top-seeded Fairfield 4-1 at Mercer County Park in New Jersey. The 2013 title was the Red Foxes' fourth overall after winning one in 2007, 2008, and 2011.

In semifinal action, the Red Foxes defeated Niagara, 4-2. The Red Foxes started the day on a good note by capturing the double point in three tightly-contested matches. Marist pairings won at second doubles 9-8 and third doubles 9-7, with Niagara winning first doubles 9-7.

Sophomore Sabrina Tahir earned Marist's first singles point with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at sixth singles. Senior Joana Sun then earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory at third singles to put Marist ahead 3-1.
The decisive point came from Karly Pang in second singles versus Sarah Hellstern, the 2013 MAAC Rookie of the Year. In a rematch from last week's regular season contest, Pang avenged her straight set loss to Hellstern with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph when it mattered the most.

On championship Sunday, the Red Foxes started out the gates slowly but heated up. After dropping a hard-fought battle for the doubles' point, the Red Foxes came out firing on all cylinders in singles play. Junior Marielle Campbell was the first Red Fox to score a singles' point as she defeated Carolina Koladzyn in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3 at fourth singles.

The tournament's eventual Most Outstanding Player, Kelsey Raynor, then gave Marist the lead at 2-1, with her victory in first singles over the 2013 MAAC Player of the Year Monica Yajima in straight sets.

Carrying on the theme of straight set success, Sun cruised over Allison Radde, 6-2, 6-2. With both Pang and Lisa Ventimiglia still in action, Tahir came through and clinched the championship team point when she beat Nikki Jackson in sixth singles 6-1, 6-4.

The championship was the fourth in program history for Marist, all of which came in the seven years of the tenure of Head Coach Roge Nesbitt. This was the fourth consecutive year Marist faced Fairfield for the championship. The Red Foxes finished with an overall record of 11-8.

The team went on to face the top seeded Florida Gators in the first round NCAA Tournament. The Red Foxes lost 4-0. Freshman Lisa Ventimiglia led the Red Foxes as she won three games in her suspended fifth singles match versus Olivia Janowicz, 6-1, 3-2. Her fellow freshman Karly Pang also earned a game point as she battled with the nation's 17th-ranked player Sofie Oyen at second singles with a score of 6-0, 4-1.
