BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Marist men's swimming and diving team has totaled 391 points through the third day of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Chmapionships to earn a second place ranking.
Sophomore Ryan Murphy (New Fairfield, Conn.) won the 1,000-yard freestyle to lead the Red Foxes' distance squad. His time of 9:07.38 set a new MAAC record and qualified him for the United States Phillips 66 National Swimming Championships from August 6-10 in San Antonio, Texas.
Marist's other record breaker came in the 100-yard backstroke, as senior Dylan Cummings (Midland Park, N.J.) finished in 49.94 seconds in the preliminaries and eclipsed the mark after he placed second in 49.84 seconds in the final. Freshman Jackson Wahl (Portland, Ore.) finished fourth in the event.
In the 400-yard individual medley, senior Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) finished third in 4:00.82, while senior Sean Sullivan (Huntington, N.Y.) finished exactly two seconds later to place fifth. The 400-yard medley relay team of Cummings, Ruddy, senior John Spitzer (Fairport, N.Y.) and senior captain Nick Vandermolen (Brielle, N.J.) finished 0.05 seconds of the school record, finishing second in 3:22.99.
The Red Foxes will compete on the final day of the MAAC Championships at 10 a.m. tomorrow. The first preliminary will be the 200-yard backstroke.

PRELIMINARIES
The Marist men's swimming and diving team had 12 different qualifiers in events on Day Three of the MAAC Championships.
Cummings broke the school record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 49.94 seconds, which also earned him the top qualifying finish. Sullivan had the next highest finish for the Red Foxes, coming in second in the 400-yard individual medley (4:01.94). Ruddy finished the event prelim in fourth place, clocking in at 4:04.49.
Senior Bill Drennen (Collegeville, Pa.) finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.03), while Wahl ranked in the same spot in the 100-yard backstroke (51.91 seconds).
